From the invention of writing to the modern day, students will gain an understanding of the relevance of graphic arts and crafts in human history and society through a series of research projects.
Students will develop the capacity to visualize ideas through the knowledge and practical experience of observation drawing. The development of perception, memory work and reproduction of objects through drawing will be taught. Basic drawing materials, tools and techniques will be used to acquire a technical knowledge of proper model drawing and its related vocabulary. This module will also explore the media of communication, marker, ink and other mediums. Students will also be exposed to the visual language, theories, techniques and processes of rendering different textures to objects.
In this module, students will learn to solve problems creatively, make paradigm shifts in thinking and apply lateral thinking techniques to real and imagined problems.
This module prepares students in communication and research skills. The three main areas of focus are: research and analysis, writing skills and academic presentation skills.
Students will study color theories, standards, systems and their applications to design production. Applications in 2D and 3D using both additive and subtractive color concepts and the study of perceptual effects will be explored.
This module provides an introduction to typography concentrating on effective textual communication. It includes a study of the history of typography, typographic measures, font families and their relationship to visual communication.
Students will be introduced to techniques used to compose and plan vector-based images with computer software. Using the software Illustrator as a design tool, students will explore its various functions and grasp the versatility of one of the industry's most utilized drawing tools. Through a series of exercises, each student will produce work demonstrating an effective thought progression and understanding of vector-based drawing software.
Students will be introduced to techniques used to edit and process raster images on computer software. Using Photoshop as a design tool, students will explore the various functions and multiple aspects of the program and visualize the versatility of one of the industry's most used image editing softwares.
This module combines studio work with academic classroom instruction. Discussions and assignments provide an understanding of the design elements and principles of visual organization, as well as an understanding of the development of form in space.
This module will provide an effective introduction to the various roles of the graphic designer and the history of international graphic design, its relevance to society and its importance as a medium for mass communication.
Students will be introduced to the development of technical and compositional skills in photography. This module includes a study of the history of photography, light metering and specific assignments dealing with still life, action and portraiture.
This module will focus on the conceptualization and creation of an effective corporate identity for a company. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and an integrated project in order to complete the module.
Students will be equipped with basic principles in animation techniques. Through practical assignments such as completing a short animation production using artistic crafts and methods, students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and commence an integrated project in order to complete the module.
This module introduces different practicalities with regards to camera use, demonstrations of basic camera angles and the effects of lighting. Students will experiment with various camera shooting techniques, as well as digitizing with different codecs to achieve different results.
Through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples, students will learn how to write their own screenplays and create script-related storyboards. They will also be able to produce a visualization of the production on paper, before the actual implementation of the story.
Students will learn to model 3D objects and scenes, texture mapping, bump maps, lightings and camera movements in a 3D environment.
Providing students with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples this course enables them to analyze and programme the appropriate scripting languages like PHP or ASP or any of the common languages used in the industry.
This module will explore the non-traditional principles of Interactive Media Design, examine the cultural impact of design via new media channels (web and interactive) and develop and refine the level of conceptual thinking within students' approaches to multimedia or web design problems.
Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to create web pages by designing and programming with the usage of the hypertext markup language and web builder applications.
This module will provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the fundamental aspects of interaction design. It focuses on the process of designing the user experience by examining works of interface design from the perspective of psychology, graphic design and human-computer interaction conceptual frameworks. User Interaction Design will comprise five sections: Usability of Interactive Systems, Development Processes, Designing Visual Interphases, Interactive Styles and Design Issues.
Students will create their first audio-visual project (on a standard video medium), from initial concept to final output. In this module, they will also learn about sound mixing and original music composing.
